During 2009, Charlottesville Tomorrow is focusing on the Charlottesville City Council and Albemarle County Board of Supervisor elections. Charlottesville Tomorrow is a non-partisan organization and we do not endorse any candidates. Our goal is to offer the most comprehensive coverage of local elections to ensure the public is informed about each candidate's positions on the issues of land use, transportation and community design.

Candidate Information for the November 2009 General Election
Charlottesville City Council (2 seats) Incumbents are Dave Norris (D-At Large) & Julian Taliaferro (D-At Large)
Declared candidates:
Dave Norris (D-At Large) Bob Fenwick (I-At Large) Paul Long (I-At Large) Note: Julian Taliaferro lost the Democratic nomination in a caucus on May 9, 2009. Andrew Williams (I) failed to qualify to be on the ballot by the June 9, 2009 deadline.
Albemarle County Board of Supervisors (3 seats)
Incumbents are Dennis Rooker (I-Jack Jouett), David Slutzky (D-Rio), and Sally Thomas (I-Samuel Miller)
Declared candidates:
Dennis Rooker (I-Jack Jouett) [Announcement] Note: Sally Thomas (Samuel Miller) is retiring at the end of 2009. Lucia Phinney (Samuel Miller) lost the Democratic nomination in a caucus on May 11, 2009. Philip Melita (Samuel Miller) lost the Republican nomination in a caucus on May 26, 2009.
NOMINATION PROCESS: Political parties in the City and County will officially nominate their candidates between May 8, 2009 and June 9, 2009. Independent candidates must file by June 9, 2009. See Charlottesville Tomorrow's election calendar (above) for details).
